An Interlock 7000 is an alcohol interlock that can be used preventively in public transport, freight transport and in the workplace to reduce the risk of drunk driving. The Interlock 7000 is also used in many countries for legal measures as part of "drink-driving offender programs (DUI/DWI)". In these countries, drivers caught with a blood alcohol level above a certain limit must use an alcohol interlock in their cars. Reliable results, tamper-proof data logging and data processing play a key role in these programs.
How Interlock 7000 works
The Interlock 7000 consists of two components: the hand unit and the control unit. The hand unit analyzes the breath sample. The control unit releases or blocks the vehicle's starter relay. When the vehicle's ignition is switched on, the Interlock 7000 requests a breath sample from the driver. If the device detects an alcohol content (BrAC) above the set limit, it prevents the engine from starting. The device helps to systematically eliminate alcohol-related accident risks and prevent driving under the influence.
Fast operational readiness
Special features of the Interlock 7000 include an extremely short warm-up time and fast readiness for use. At temperatures above 0 °C it is ready for use immediately. At temperatures below 0 °C the alcolock is still quickly ready for use. With an approved temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C the device ensures reliable operation in all types of ambient conditions.
Easy use of the alcolock
The design of the Interlock 7000 is attractive and ergonomic, with the mouthpiece on the back of the handpiece – making it less easily recognizable as an alcohol interlock. The hygienic mouthpieces of the Interlock 7000 are fully biodegradable. The breath sample can be given in no time. The navigation on the color display makes the device easy and intuitive to use. In addition, colored LEDs on the device improve user-friendliness.
Secure data management
The Interlock 7000 data logs save all relevant events such as date, time, submission or refusal to submit to an alcohol test, measured alcohol concentration, engine starts and stops, and any attempts to manipulate the device. The data is transferred from the control unit to the computer via an infrared interface. Downloaded data is only accessible to authorized persons. From creation to provision of data, special encryption methods guarantee data protection.
Mobile data transfer module
If the Interlock 7000 is equipped with an additional mobile data transmission module, it is possible to automatically transmit data to a responsible unit or person via a mobile network for certain predefined events. This could be, for example, an attempt to start the engine while under the influence of alcohol.
Camera
The Dräger Interlock 7000 can be equipped with a camera for applications where it is a legal requirement or for special customer requirements. The camera records the submitted breath samples with images. It can be easily installed in any vehicle. Infrared technology ensures good image quality, regardless of whether it is day or night.
Reliable measurement technology
The Interlock 7000 specifically measures alcohol. The measurement result is reliable and precise. Attempts to bypass or manipulate the device are identified and stored in the system. The device can identify whether the alcohol detected in the breath sample is actual breath alcohol or just mouth alcohol.
