The Interlock concept
The Dräger Interlock® 5000 consists of two components – the alcohol meter and the control unit. Before the engine starts, the unit requests the driver to provide a breath sample. The alcohol concentration measurement result determines whether the control unit releases the starter motor and whether the engine can be started.
Alcolock for preventive use
The Interlock 5000 is E1-marked and meets all the requirements of the European standard EN 50436-2, which is particularly used as a reference for the preventive use of alcohol interlocks in many countries around the world. The alcohol interlock helps to reliably protect personnel, passengers and goods from the risks of drunk driving. It also protects against risks arising from residual alcohol effects. The Interlock 5000 increases the safety of the company and helps to prevent personal injury or property damage caused by alcohol consumption.
Function and design of the alcolock
The design of the Interlock 5000 is attractive and ergonomic. Operation is supported by a large display and is therefore simple and intuitive. The nozzle is attached to the back of the hand unit. The Interlock 5000 is therefore not immediately recognizable as an alcolock. The nozzle can be easily replaced, is hygienic and biodegradable.
Power consumption and operational readiness
The Interlock 5000 operates economically, in standby mode the current consumption is below 1 mA. Even when driving, the device is very economical. This ensures that the vehicle's operational readiness is never compromised. The device is reliable and quickly ready for use in a temperature range from -40 °C to 85 °C. It is quickly ready for operation regardless of whether it is a cold winter or in the blazing sun. We recommend calibrating and servicing the device every 12 months.
Alcohol measurement and manipulation detection
The electrochemical sensor in the Interlock 5000 specifically measures alcohol, ensuring that other exhaled substances do not distort the measurement results. This precise sensor technology is also used in alcohol meters used by the police. The Interlock 5000 detects and documents tampering attempts.
Data recording and data protection
The device stores all relevant data in the control unit. These include, for example: submission of a breath sample or refusal to submit a breath sample, measured alcohol concentration, engine starts and stops, and possible manipulation attempts. The data can be downloaded via an infrared interface and then analyzed. The data is protected by special encryption methods. They can only be downloaded and analyzed with certain access rights, special software, and the respective hardware.
